Cake tasting frequently asked questions

1. How long before the wedding should we schedule our cake tasting?

If you are booked with one of the venues that include Piece of Cake within their inclusive wedding package, we already have a spot reserved for you, which gives you plenty of flexibility when it comes to your cake tasting! We typically recommend scheduling your appointment when you have most of the other major elements decided (wedding colors, florals, theme, etc) since you may want to include some of those elements in your the cake. Typically that would mean you can comfortably schedule your tasting anywhere from 1 month to 6 months before the big day! If you are booked at a venue that doesn’t include Piece of Cake as part of their package, we would suggest meeting with us 3-6 months before your wedding.

2. We found a cake we love on Pinterest and we already know what we want for our flavors, do we have to come in for a tasting?

Absolutely not! We work with over 100 couples every year that never come in for a consultation. Oftentimes they will try our cake at a venue open house and fall in love with a flavor or 2 or they pick up one of our At Home tasting boxes and they send us a cake design picture that perfectly fits their cake vision by email and then we work together to make sure we get all of the details by email and or/phone.

3. How many people we can bring to the tasting?

Our tasting rooms fit 4 guests comfortably. Kids are welcome!

4. Is there a fee for the cake tasting and consultation?

If your wedding cake was included in a package at one of our venue partners, your tasting is included in your package pricing!

For our non package couples, a one hour cake tasting and consultation is included for cakes priced above $250 and tastings for cakes priced below $250 can be scheduled for $35. As an alternative, instead of scheduling a full 1 hour appointment, you can choose the free at home tasting box pickup option, which gets you the same flavors and fillings to taste and a member of our team would be happy to provide you pricing at the counter!

5. What do we try at the tasting?

At our tastings you get to try our 4 most popular flavor and filling combinations! Plus if you see something in the cupcake case that looks delicious, we can grab that for you too!

6. What days do you schedule cake tastings?

We offer tastings at our Gilbert location on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Our storefronts are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

7. What should we bring to the the tasting?

We suggest bringing as much information as you have about your dream cake. That may include photos of cakes you found online that fit your vision, color swatches, cake toppers, pictures of flowers your florist will be providing, and anything else that will help us see your cake vision! If you don’t have most of that stuff, don’t sweat it, if you can bring a few pictures of cakes that fit your wedding vision, that gives us a great start!

8. How long does the tasting last?

Our tastings are scheduled for a full 60 minutes but we find they typically last between 20-45 minutes on average.

9. Can we try gluten free, dairy free, or other allergen friendly options at the tasting?

Absolutely! If you have a dietary restriction and need to request samples to accommodate that, please let us know in the comments field when you schedule your cake tasting and we can make sure we have a couple of options ready for you at the tasting!
